Natalee Holloway’s father files for daughter to be declared legally dead

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A court document from the Jefferson County Probate Court says the father of Natalee Holloway has filed a petition to declare his daughter legally dead.

Originally reported by gossip site, a hearing is set for September 23rd in Judge Alan King's courtroom for Dave Holloway's petition.

In response to Dave Holloway's petition, Natalee's mother Beth says "I had no idea Dave was filing this petition. I only learned about this when I was handed the citation by a process server while addressing a large audience at a conference in Georgia... I don't know what this is about, or why Dave is taking this action at this time."

Natalee Holloway disappeared in May of 2005. Several investigations and arrests have not lead to any convictions. The lead suspect in the case, Joran van der Sloot, is currently incarcerated in Peru and awaiting trial for the murder of a Peruvian woman.
