Suspected arson wildfire rekindled in Marion Co.

MARION COUNTY, TX (KSLA) - Fire crews are back out in eastern Marion County near the Louisiana state line, where wildfires believed to have been intentionally set Tuesday appear to have rekindled.

Marion County investigators are still seeking the driver of a white Dodge truck with a red stripe down the side of the body, displaying a handicap sticker in the window.

Investigators say they believe the driver of this vehicle, along with its occupant(s), are responsible for setting multiple fires near the community of Smithland, TX on Tuesday along Highway 49 near CR 3503 and McR 3422.

In addition to local volunteer fire departments, the Texas Forestry Service, Dallas, Smithland Volunteer FD and Caddo FD #8 are among the crews assisting.

Right now, they are staging along McR 3503 (Gethsemane N Rd), as the fire moves toward them from the west.  They say the plan is to allow it to burn to the road, and protect the camps on the shores of Monterey Lake on the on the other side.

Water drops have also continued in the area.  No structures have burned today.  A trailer home and another house used for storage were destroyed on Tuesday by the fire.

This is a developing situation.  More details and updates will be posted as information becomes available.
