UPDATE: Parked car catches fire, spreads to grass

Posted: Updated:

GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Emergency crews closed down Post Oak Road in Gregg County, because of a blaze that started as a car fire.

Residents at 1616 Post Oak Road looked out their window and saw their Camero on fire. They called the fire department, then ran outside and tried to put out the fire themselves, but it continued to spread to the surrounding grass.

The fire spread to a nearby oil tank, but luckily it was empty and the blaze never reached any of the full oil tanks in the area.

Post Oak Road, which runs just south of the interstate and parallel with it, was shut down for about an hour while crews battled the flames.

The fire has been extinguished, but crews remain on the scene to monitor hot spots.

It is unknown at this time what caused the parked car to catch on fire.
