Longview hosts 9-11 remembrance

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- In Longview today, East Texans honored and remembered those who fell victim in the 9-11 attacks. It was a somber and emotional remembrance, that even included the playing of recorded 9-1-1 calls from that day.

It began with a solemn march by firefighters and police down center street to the courthouse lawn, carrying the symbol of those lost in 9-11. Fire helmets and police hats.

"I'm just very thankful that this many people truly are still remembering what happened on 9-11 ten years ago," says visitor Brenda Lanier.

"It still lingers in our thoughts everyday when we go to work we realize the sacrifices that were made that particular day, and it exemplifies the service that we all understand," says Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman.

"The day that changed each of our lives forever, the day we will all remember what we were doing on that fateful morning," says Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt.

A flag draped coffin honored the dead and the recorded sounds of September 11th 2001, brought emotions to the surface, as many were opening crying. Around 300 people attended the ceremony on the courthouse lawn.
