Fire burning 'out of control' in Cherokee County

Posted: Updated:

CHEROKEE, TX (KTRE) - A fire is 'burning out of control' in Cherokee County, and another has jumped the containment line in Trinity County.

Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell said a fire has started about three miles south of Alto and is burning out of control. He said he does not know how big the fire is right now, but no evacuations have been ordered.

The Womack Road fire in Trinity County has jumped containment lines and is burning about 15 acres, in addition to the 200 inside the containment line, according to Jeff Durant with the Texas Forest Service.

Durant said no evacuations are in place, but some structures are threatened on the southeast side of the fire.
