Update: All fires in Smith County contained

UPDATE: According to the Smith County Fire Marshal, all fires in Smith County are currently contained. Last night's fire between CR 26 and FM 850 burned approximately 125 acres, but no structures were damaged. Fire crews are continuing to monitor hot spots at previous fire locations throughout the County.

Update: Evacuations have been ordered for the CR 26, CR 21, FM 850, and CR 2301 area. Stay tuned for more updates as we have them.

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Fire Marshal's Office confirms that new fire has sparked in a wooded area off of Hwy 31 E in Tyler.

Authorities say the fire is south of CR 26, north of FM 850, west of CR 21, and east of CR 2301, about three miles northeast of Chapel Hill.

No word on how large the fire is at this time.

The Smith County Commissioners Court says this area contains "multiple oil wells."

Officials say several nearby homes are currently threatened. Crews are determining whether an evacuation is needed.
