ETX church collecting donations for firefighters

Posted: Updated:

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - Communities all over East Texas are pulling together to collect donations for the firefighters who have been putting out these ferocious fires.

Whitehouse First Assembly church has set up in front of the  Whitehouse in Brookshire's and is collecting items there.

Stephen Byrd, who is behind the fund drive, says the biggest need right now is monetary donations.

Many of the fire departments are in need of money to help pay for fuel.

They are still collecting water, Gatorade and snacks. They are also collecting bags of ice to help keep the drinks cool for the firefighters.

"They're in need of hydration and snacks while they're fighting these fires. I've talked to several firefighters and they're working countless hours, some 48 hours at a time, not able to spend time with their families, and they're constantly working to put these fires out," said Byrd.

Byrd says this fund and supplies drive will take place at Brookshire's on Thursday and Friday, from 6a.m. to 10p.m.
