Two arrested in raid on alleged illegal gun sale operation

RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two people are arrested after a raid on a Rains County home and a Hunt County storage facility.

Clay Alexander with The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tells KLTV 7 a raid was conducted on a home on Santa Fe Street in Emory and a storage facility on FM 751 in Quinlan.

Paul Burchett and Margaret Gunter were both arrested in the raid and charged with dealing firearms without a license, selling firearms to convicted felons and selling handguns to out-of-state residents. The two are expected in a Tyler federal court this afternoon to be arraigned.

ATF agents were contacted by vendors and customers at Canton's First Monday Trades Days on the suspicion that guns were being sold illegally. Agents then started an undercover investigation about six months ago into the claims. Agents believe the two sold guns at multiple sites across East Texas.

Alexander said the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests could be made.

The guns seized range include shotguns, rifles and handguns ranging from small to large caliber.
