Gourmet food, live entertainment and a silent auction, all were part of a fund raising event supporting a new drama program in Tyler schools. Officials with The University of Texas at Austin were in town tonight to help raise money for the "Drama for Schools" program.
The program is a joint venture between UT's College of Fine arts and the Tyler Independent School District. It was started more than three years ago and Tyler is just the second district in the state to be chosen for the program.
Teachers like Jane Fenter say they are excited about the possibilities.
"The excitement is the fact that the drama techniques are applied to subjects in school and making them interesting for children."
UT has kicked in almost 3/4 of the $200,000 needed to fund the program, and TISD is looking to come up with the rest. If you would like to help out all you have to do is call TISD and tell them you would like to donate to the "Drama for Schools" program.
