No charges yet filed in Canton convenience store crash

By Lauren Callahan

CANTON, TX (KLTV) - A Canton convenience store is still closed, after a crash involving two teenagers in a pick up truck.

Lauren Callahan brought you the first images from the scene Thursday and she returned to the store Monday afternoon.

The passenger in the vehicle, a sophomore at Canton high school, was released from the hospital Friday with a broken ankle and broken leg. Employees at the convenience store tell us he came by with his father over the weekend to apologize.

Store employees also think the accident would have been much worse if the truck hadn't hit an air machine before it impacted the building.

The teenagers in the truck both attend Canton high school.

Canton ISD Superintendent Jay Tullos hopes his students learn from the accident, "What we'll do is just really drive those kids to make good choices on and off campus."

Canton high school students who request grief counseling will be seen by the school's two regular counselors.

School officials who have spoken with the driver's mother tell us he had at least one surgery this weekend and he is progressing and responsive.

The Canton Police Department is still investigating. So far, no charges have been filed.
