LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Late Sunday evening, Longview Police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Magnolia Lane and Judson Road in Longview, in which the driver at fault was reportedly attempting to flee the scene.

According to the police report, witnesses stated that the driver of a gray GMC truck cut off a white GMC Envoy, striking the SUV.

Authorities say the driver of the GMC, Caleb Vanmeter, 25, ran eastbound on Magnolia, attempting to get away, but was stopped.

Vanmeter was tackled by witnesses and held until officials arrived on scene.

Police report that Vanmeter smelled strongly of alcohol,  had blood shot eyes, and was "unsteady on his feet."

Due to Vanmeter's condition, police did not perform a field sobriety test. Vanmeter was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he refused a blood test.

Police say Vanmeter admitted to drinking two six-packs of Coors Light.

The driver of the Envoy was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center with a severe head injury.

Vanmeter has been arrested and charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle. He's being held at the Gregg County Jail on $25,000 bond.
