Crane removes fallen tree from yard

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A portion of Mike McDonald's 75-foot oak tree snapped. A 40-foot branch came crashing down onto his patio--shattering a brick wall.

Now, the rest of the tree looms over the house...and it could break at any moment.

To avoid this potential event, a crane was brought in to remove the tree from McDonald's yard.

"The situation where the tree is...there's no way to lower it down by hand so we have to raise it you know, pick it up over the house," said Matt Poeschl of Allied Tree Service.

Piece by piece, the crane lowered the tree to the front yard. With extremely dry conditions and late summer storms, cranes showing up in front yards have become a common site.

Larry Smith with Cannon Steel says the demand for his cranes has sky rocketed in recent months.

"Here lately it's really increased probably by fifty percent," said Smith.

With conditions so dry, even trees that appear healthy are loosing branches. One of the only measures you can take to prevent limbs from falling is to trim trees back early in the season.
