TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A deputy serving a warrant gets caught up into a life and death struggle, as a suspect attempts to take the officers gun from him.

It happened on Wednesday as a Titus County deputy was trying to serve a warrant at a residence where 26-year-old James Myers was hiding.

According to the Titus County Sheriff Tim Ingram, Myers bolted out of the house and into a nearby wooded area with the deputy in pursuit.

Myers then doubled back and rushed the deputy, trying to take his handgun away from him.

In a brief struggle, the deputy shot Myers in the leg.

Myers is hospitalized and expected to recover.

He was wanted on outstanding warrants for burglary and other charges.

The deputies name has not been released, as the incident is being investigated by Texas Rangers.
