ETMC will offer a free KnowledgeFirst Forum on caring for chronically ill children Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. in the ETMC Pavilion.
Terence and Laura Thedford have formed a support group for parents of chronically ill children called Amazing Little Hearts of East Texas. They formed the group last year after their child was born with a severe heart defect. "Looking in the future, we are not done. There is no finish line to look forward to. No, if we can get through one more obstacle we are home free. It is a constant struggle to deal with," said Mr. Thedford. "We hope this support group will help parents, like us, who need some extra help in dealing with different issues related to raising a child with special medical needs."
Brenda McBride, licensed social worker for ETMC, will lead the session, which will include topics about how to communicate with your child about their medical condition, speaking to siblings about illness and dealing with the impact a child's illness can have on your marriage and finances.
Dr. Tim Thomas, a pediatric cardiologist from Dallas, will also attend.
A light meal will be served. Free parking is available next to the Pavilion. Please pre-register by calling 800-648-8141 and pressing 2.
