LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- A wrong way driver on an east Texas interstate kills himself and another driver in a head-on crash. It happened around 3:35 this morning at the 596 mile marker of interstate 20 in Gregg county. Startled motorists called in the report of a driver going the wrong way on eastbound I-20, going 4 miles before tragedy struck. DPS troopers say the wrong way driver was 62 year old Pedro Vasquez-Rodriguez of Marshall, who crashed head long into an eastbound car driven by 42 year old Kevin Earl Jones of Hallsville. Killing them both.

"Its terrible , especially when someone losses their live over something so foolish," says area resident Larry Lohr.

Tara Leroy was driving the area and was rerouted, only to look back and see a frightening scene.

"They looked really terrible, its horrible its sad, I was keeping the family in my prayers hoping nobody got hurt or killed or anything," Leroy says.

Investigators are looking into how and why Rodriguez got onto the interstate going the wrong way. Gregg county records show Rodriguez was jailed twice for DWI.

"It makes me sad to hear of anything like that its horrible," says area worker Elizabeth Leroy.

DPS  troopers have not said whether alcohol may have been a factor in the case. Funeral services are pending for both Rodriguez and Jones.
