Marshall man wrong way on I-20 kills himself and Hallsville man in wreck

Posted: Updated:

A wrong way driver on an East Texas interstate killed himself and another driver in a head-on crash.

It happened around 3:35 a.m. at the 596 mile marker of Interstate 20 in Gregg County.

A Chevy Blazer driven by Pedro Vasquez-Rodriguez, 62, of Marshall, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-20.

Rodriguez crashed head-on into an eastbound car driven by Kevin Earl Jones, 42, of Hallsville.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

County records show that Rodriguez had two previous DWI arrests.

State troopers have not said whether alcohol may have been a factor in the case.
