Low lake levels could put damper on Labor Day

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - In case you need more proof of how dry it is...take a look at Lake Tyler.

Docks lead to mud puddles and boats sit still--the water too low for them to float. Some of the boat ramps are already closed and the remaining ones may not be around for the holiday weekend.

Smith County Game Warden Chris Green says taking a boat out on the lake with water levels this low can be a big risk.  Tree stumps, sandbars and debris are exposed due to the shallow water.

Another concern is the businesses around the lake. Boats are stranded in the mud and that means many people won't be able to get their boats out on the lake. Without the draw of lake-goers--stores and restaurants will be loosing money.

"It's going to be tough on those that depend on our recreational boaters and fisherman," said Green.
