A jury will decide the future of a man who admitted to shooting a sheriff's deputy.
James Edward Jones shot Deputy Carolyn Hudson in Downtown Tyler last March. Witnesses say Jones was attempting to escape after being transfered from UT Health Center.
Jones plead Guilty to Agravated Assault on a Public Servant. During Opening Arguments in the punishment phase Monday afternoon, Jones' Attorney said the shooting was an accident.
The jury will now determe Jones' sentence. He faces between 15 and 99 years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine.
