Students in East Texas will soon be able to learn science through a Virtual Video Lab. The Discovery Science Place in Tyler has teamed up with NETnet and Cox Communications. Students can interact with employees at the museum through video conferencing technology. Research has shown this type of hands-on learning often leads to higher test scores.
"Most importantly, it'll get the kids excited about science, about hands-on science, and about student-directed learning," said Lucinda Presley, Arts-Science Director at The Discovery Science Place.
Right now, schools connected through SUPERnet are signed up for the virtual science lab. the program will be fully implemented in the spring. The Discovery Science Place says it's focusing on elementary schools now, and hopes to bring middle- and high schools on board in the future.
