Nacogdoches Police release ID of man shot to death; 2 arrested in connection

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Police say it was a Lufkin man who died Thursday afternoon after getting shot during a home robbery on South Ritchie Street. Two other men have been arrested in connection to the incident.

According to a press release, Michael O'Brien Johnson, 27, of Lufkin, was shot to death by Davarick Chatman, 32, of Nacogdoches. Courtny Randale Allen, 24, of Lufkin, fled the scene but later turned himself in on an aggravated robbery charge.

The investigation shows Allen and Johnson went to the residence and bought marijuana, according to the report They then returned a short time later and claimed a discrepancy in the amount of marijuana, the report states.

Once inside the residence, police say one of the men produced a 22-caliber pistol and threatened Chatman, then tied him up as they began to ransack the house.

Chatman was able to free himself and get a 16-gauge shotgun and shot Johnson several times at close range, according to the report. Johnson died at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Lt. Paul Peterson said detectives identified Allen as the second suspect on Thursday and contacted him. Allen turned himself into police around midnight, Peterson said.

Peterson said detectives used cellphones at the scene to connect Allen as the second suspect.

"There were cellphones all over the place," Peterson said. "They just lined them all up and started calling numbers and were able to figure out it was Allen."

Police arrested Chatman on a charge of possession of marijuana.
