No charges filed in $500K theft ring

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Smith County Sheriff's spokesperson said they are working to file the appropriate charges in a half-million-dollar theft-ring bust in a Tyler warehouse. Since the bust in late July, multiple agencies have been working to solve hundreds of burglary and theft cases throughout East Texas.

Lt. Tony Dana says the trouble they're running into is proving that the persons of interest in their particular cases actually burglarized the homes. If they cannot prove that, he says they still have the option to charge them with possession of stolen property.

As of right now, no charges have been filed.

Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham says the case has not been presented for his review.
