ETX couple hosts live auction to help grieving families

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - After an East Texas family lost a newborn baby, family and friends stepped in to help with the grieving, and the finances of the funeral.

Just nine days after giving birth, Aaron and Courtney Blakeney lost their newborn baby, Preslee, with no known cause.

"Some people turn inward, and just fall apart, I think we held on to each other and built on that," said Aaron Blakeney, Preslee's father.

Shortly after Preslee's death, the family faced the financial responsibility of funeral expenses.

"No one thinks about the cost of burying a loved one, until it happens, especially with a child," said Aaron.

But Aaron and Courtney said with one knock on the door, "He said that the fire department had pulled together some funds and they said they were going to get us a coffin, no charge," ]their burden was lifted.

Wanting to help others during a difficult time, the Blakeney's started the "Preslee Foundation."

"We turned a negative into a positive, that's why we started the foundation, so we could help out other couples," said Courtney.

After months of collecting donations, the couple is ready to hold their first "Preslee Foundation" fundraising event, which will include silent and live auctions.

"We just want people to come out and have a good time and just help support us and raise some more money for other families," said Courtney.

Using their heartache, to help others.

The fundraiser will be tomorrow evening from 6:00 p.m.  to 10:00 p.m., at the Realtor Center in Tyler Texas.

The event will include cocktails, a live and silent auction, and a live band.
