RAW: Standoff ends peacefully at Texarkana grain silo

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - Authorities in Texarkana managed to take a disturbed man into custody safely following a stand-off at a grain silo.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night off of South 8th St. and Lelia in Texarkana.

According to police, a 23-year-old man climbed on top of a 65 foot grain bin after reportedly learning on Facebook that he could be in trouble with the law. His trouble, police believe, stems from allegations that the man may have been romantically involved with a 16-year-old runaway from Red River County.

The man, according to police was waving a knife or box cutter and occasionally cutting his clothes and setting them on fire before throwing the clothing down.

Authorities report that before the man actually came down, his demands for water and cigarettes were met. Negotiators were able to convince him to come down around 2:30 a.m.

He was then taken to Wadley Hospital for a mental evaluation. No charges have been filed at this time.
