City of Tyler presents proposed budget, no property tax increase

TYLER, TX (KLTV)- The City of Tyler presented the proposed budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year Wednesday morning.

The city plans to keep its current property tax rate of 20.8 cents per $100 valuation.

"I am very pleased we are able to hold to our current property tax rate," Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass said.

The city said this budget will also eliminate 20.5 city positions. Those positions are all currently vacant and frozen from last year.

There were no proposed increases in water or sewer rates, but a $1.50 per month increase in Solid Waste fees was proposed for residential service.

The public is invited to a public hearing on the budget during the August 24, 2011 city council meeting at 9 a.m.

Final adoption of the budget is scheduled for September 14, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Tyler City Hall.
