Brush fires threaten Van Zandt County properties

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Homes in Van Zandt County were threatened by not one, but two brush fires on Tuesday.

These fires sparked up along CR 2128, just east of FM 47 in Van Zandt County.

KLTV 7's Ian Smith and spoke with some residents who say the flames were a little too close for comfort.

The brush fire CR 2128 burned nearly 70 acres in Monday evening. At the same time that fire was burning, another fire was burning not far from there on FM 47.

With conditions extremely hot and dry, and with no relief in sight, the fires have residents in the area on edge.

"It could go up, the whole county could go up if it wanted to," expressed property owner Ronnie Warrington, "I'm concerned it will burn up my barn and my equipment."

Barry Clanton says he thought his house was in fire with his dogs inside.

KLTV spoke with the Wills Point Fire Department who says the fire is contained. There's just a few hot spots in the area. They'll be keeping a close eye to make sure nothing has changed.

Wills Point tells us they aren't sure what sparked  the fires but think it may have been a cigarette. No citations have been given at this time.
