Bell Golf Tournament and Golf Ball Drop to benefit ETMC's prostate cancer outreach

Team and individual registration for the 11th annual Henry M. Bell, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament is now under way, with proceeds to benefit East Texas Medical Center's prostate cancer outreach and community education.  Hosted by the ETMC Cancer Institute and the ETMC Foundation, the charity tournament is set for Monday, Sept. 19, at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler.

Sponsors include corporate champion Suddenlink, media sponsor KLTV-7 and medical champion ETMC First Physicians Urology, as well as a host of area organizations.  The event will feature a full afternoon of recreation and socialization, including a shotgun start, scramble tournament and awards reception.

The Metro Aviation, Inc. Golf Ball Drop is set for 12:30 p.m., just before the tournament start at 1 p.m.  The grand prize winner – for the golf ball that lands in the designated hole or closest to the hole – will receive $1,000.  The first place prize winner will receive a $500 FRESH gift card courtesy of Brookshire's Grocery Co., with additional prizes awarded to the second through fifth place winners.  A maximum of 1,000 golf ball chances will be sold for $5 each or six for $25.

For more information on the Golf Ball Drop, tournament registration and sponsorship opportunities, please contact the ETMC Foundation at (903) 596-3751.

The 2010 Bell Tournament raised approximately $25,000 for local prostate cancer outreach and community education.

"The ETMC Cancer Institute and a dedicated team of urologists, oncologists and radiation oncologists are committed to fighting prostate cancer in East Texas," explained Todd Sigmon, vice president of the ETMC Cancer Institute.  "The Bell Tournament raises both awareness and funding that helps us continue to promote early detection and provide the latest treatment options."

The tournament also honors the late Henry M. Bell, Jr., former chairman of the board of the ETMC Foundation and long-term supporter of ETMC.
