Tyler Police investigate apartment shooting

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Some East Texans narrowly escaped gunshots at a Tyler apartment complex, but the shooters are still on the loose.

Around 1 AM, shots were fired at the Southwest Pines Apartments on Walton Rd.

The apartment manager said neither the victims nor the shooters lived at the complex.

Tony McCuien says he's lived at these apartments for about 2 years, and said things are usually pretty calm.

"It's usually quiet you know you got kids playing a lot," said Tony McCuien.

So when McCuien heard what sounded like fire crackers, he knew something was wrong.

"It was about 10 to 12 shots," said McCuien.

He then explained how the police came a few minutes later to talk with the victims about what happened.

Tyler police say the victims arrived at the apartments in a Crown Victoria late last night. While the victims were in the car they were approached by five to six black males who began shooting at them.

"They know each other and it escalated into a shooting. So the officers are out there now trying to locate the suspects in the case talking to all the victims and witnesses," said Doyle Lynch, from the Tyler Police Department.

Officials say the victims managed to escape unharmed.

At this moment officials say that it is unknown how the victims and suspects know each other, or how the shooting began.
The manager at Southwest Pines Apartments said they will be increasing police patrol as a precaution.

If you know anything about this shooting call Tyler Police.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
