Oncor sub-station fire causes power outage in Henderson Co.

ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Late Sunday night a power sub-station operated by Oncor caught fire.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of FM 59 and County Road 1213, just north of the Crossroads area. Oncor officials tell us the fire may have started by an equipment malfunctioning.

Initially about 800 customers were without power, but by 3 a.m., about half of those had their power restored. Crews are still working on the problem and hope to have the rest of their customers' power restored later Monday evening.

Residents in the area tell us they are doing their best to brave the heat while their power is out, like Benjamin Rust who says, "we didn't have any fan, we started sweating, so we opened up the windows, and the breeze started blowing."

Officials tell us crews will continue to work on the problem until everyone has their power restored.
