Veterans were honored at Camp Fannin, in Smith County. 250,000 infantrymen went through the East Texas post, from May 1943 through December of 1945.
Many of the men who showed up Tuesday afternoon had trained here over sixty years ago.
"They must have known I was here in the Army and I was going to win the war for them because they dropped the bomb on Japan, and Japan quit," said Camp Fannin Association President Dave Wendt. "And, you know what? We were really unhappy, those of us that were in training because all of us thought we should go, and wanted to go."
