UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A two-year-old girl is home recovering from a pit bull attack.

The attack happened around 4PM Wednesday on Ironwood Road, between Gilmer and Pritchett. The child was taken to the hospital in Gilmer, then flown to Dallas Children's hospital.

Family members tell KLTV 7 tonight that the girl, Alexus Black, was visiting the home where the dog lived, and that she had been around the dog before. The dog looked to be asleep, but when Alexis walked by, family members say the dog lunged at her, biting her forehead and lip.

Family members say the damage to her forehead will likely be repaired with stitches, but Alexus was in surgery Wednesday tonight to repair the damage to her lip.

Upshur County officials tell KLTV 7 tonight that the dog has been seized, but no charges have been filed against the dog's owner.

We're told Bear, the two-year-old pit bull, is being quarantined. In a few days, a hearing will be held to determine what will happen to the dog.
