Wounded officer's wife pleas for children of shooter

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The wife of a West Texas police officer who was shot in the head while responding to a call on July 12 has made an extraordinary request of her family's countless supporters.

While her husband continues to recover at a rehabilitation center, Amber Duncan Campbell posted the following statement on her Facebook wall Tuesday afternoon:

Ok people keep asking us what we need. I have thought a lot about this. I would like people to rally together and get school supplies and clothing for the children of the man who shot Darrell. My heart breaks for them..they can never have their dad back and they need support too. Darrell is doing so well! He gave thumbs up when I asked him if he was on board with this idea. We are forgiving and letting go!

"It's just what we've decided to do, to not allow ourselves to be consumed with anger over the situation," Amber said.

Amber says she is thankful for her husband's progress and knows it could have been a lot worse.

"We've been too blessed to be angry, there's no reason to be angry anymore.  We've done well.  These children are the ones who we need to be focused on, and making sure that we keep this from happening again, possibly, hopefully," Amber said.

The online response to this usual request has been overwhelmingly positive:

Christin N James Delarosa - it takes a really big heart to ask for something like that....you are an amazing woman.....does anyone know where we can get info on the children like age, size, boy/girl, how many...etc.??

Deborah Bellizzi Campbell - Amber, I commend you. That is a God thing. Sometimes it takes years for people to find forgiveness and God has blessed you and Darrell with that ability because you're a child of his and you hear him speaking to you. May this be a reminder to all of us how we should live - always prepared to forgive those that hurt us. God Bless you. We continue to pray for yall.

Cati Fleming Patrick - You are so amazing for this. I would love to help with this too. I am so proud to call you a friend. It is great of you to think of this, and I am glad that Darrell is on board too...
