Vets Get Free Meal

How about this for a Veterans Day thank you. Golden Corral Restaurant hosted it's third annual National Military Appreciation Night tonight. All veterans and active duty military enjoyed a free meal. And as you can expect, Tyler's Golden Corral was packed. They expected to serve more than 2000 people, which just about doubles a typical night.

"It's a small thing to give back to our local veterans," said Golden Corral GM Jody Konsire. "They've fought for freedom. It's just a small thank you."

"I think it's a fine thing to do," said U.S. Air Force Vet Andrew Christoper, "and I think all veteran's appreciate it. I know I do."

"It's a good feeling," added Korean War Vet Tex Rackley, "because it makes you feel like the cause you've done was a good cause."

Vietnam Vet Cecil Bounds may have summed it up best when he said "God bless them. God bless America and thank God."

Golden Corral expects to serve more than 250,000 veterans and active duty military across the country tonight. That translates into a nearly 2.5 million dollar "thank you". They also hope to raise more than $250,000 for Disabled American Veterans.

    Ever heard the saying, "treat yourself"? Well today was the perfect day to do it, because two East Texas teams paired up with local Dairy Queens to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.  Serving guest at the drive-thru and enjoying some ice-cream themselves, John Tyler Lions and Tyler Lee Red Raiders football took part in Miracle Treat Day.  A five dollar donation was worth a small blizzard.
