One step closer to removing LaPrade from office

UPDATE: Commissioner Ricky LaPrade was served papers at the Van Zandt County Courthouse, Tuesday morning, for his August 8th court hearing. LaPrade has another court date on August 11 at 9am, where he will be arraigned on two misdemeanor charges for his April DUI and resisting arrest and one felony charge of misapplication of fiduciary property. Charges on his July DUI are still pending.VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A resident is one step closer in the process of  removing Van Zandt County commissioner Ricky LaPrade from office.

LaPrade was arrested and charged with DWI on Sunday July 3.

It was the second time he has been charged with DWI this year. The first was in April.

Monday morning a Van Zandt County resident refiled and swore to a petition that could remove LaPrade from office.

The district judge granted the resident's request for citation Monday morning.

The notice of hearing issued by District Judge Theresa Drum Monday morning requires County Commissioner Ricky LaPrade to appear before her in court to determine whether or not he will be removed from office.

The district clerk handed off those papers Monday afternoon to a county constable who will serve them to the commissioner.

These efforts to remove LaPrade from office were spurred by his second DWI arrest in July.

The Van Zandt County Constable says they plan on delivering Commissioner LaPrade's order to appear in court Tuesday morning. Then his set court date will be August 8th at 9 am.

Commissioner LaPrade has been arrested three times this year. Twice for DWI and once for misappropriation of fiduciary property.
