LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - With triple digit temperatures and no relief in sight, some East Texans are finding it hard to cool off---even in their home.
But a program launched Monday by Mayor Jay Dean will bring window air conditioning units to at least 200 in Longview.
The area agency on aging will first give the a/c units to the elderly, disabled, and as supply lasts, low income residents.
"Some can't afford a $100 to buy a window unit; but that is the reality, that's the time we live in. So anything we can do to help people struggling like that to me it's just the humane thing to do," says Dean.
Funding for the Mayor's Beat the Heat project is entirely through private donations.
