East Texas woman attacked by four Pit Bulls

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Patsy Mumphrey has been walking up and down this street for twenty years. Her walk on Tuesday didn't seem any different.  But then a pack of pit bulls charged after her.

Trying to escape, the fell to the ground. That's when the dogs attacked her.

She kicked and screamed as the dogs bit her. But, that's when some good samaritans came to her aid.

"When I was on the ground out of the corner of my eye I could see this red truck and I knew then I had help," said Mumphrey.

The men fought the dogs off of Patsy. Three of them running into a wooded area nearby. But the fourth one wasn't finished. It bit patsy on the head, tearing off a piece of her scalp.

Finally, the dog turned her loose. Patsy was rushed to ETMC where she had surgery on her head.

The dogs weren't current on their vaccinations and Patsy is afraid they may have rabies.

All four dogs have been euthanized and tested for rabies. The results are pending.

Smith County says the owner of the dogs was cited for not keeping them contained on his property and for not keeping up with their vaccinations.  The incident is currently under investigation.
