Stolen car involved in hit and run accident in Tyler

Released by The Tyler Police Department:

TYLER, TX - Just after 11:15 Tuesday night,  Tyler Police Officers were dispatched to Southtown and S. Broadway in reference to a major hit and run traffic accident.

While officers were enroute to the scene, dispatch advised that the suspect vehicle had been stolen prior to the accident. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that a black 2002 Honda Civic had been struck from the rear causing that vehicle to strike a white 2011 Ford Focus.

The 31 year old white male driver of the Honda Civic was not injured. The 51 year old white female driver of the Ford Focus was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The stolen vehicle, a black 2009 Nissan Altima was recovered in the roadway in the 6200 block of Hollytree Drive. The vehicle had extensive damage to the front end. The vehicle was unoccupied.

The area was search, however the suspect was not located. The vehicle was stolen just before the accident occurred at 7916 S. Broadway. This case is currently under investigation.
