Whitehouse stabbing suspect in custody

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - The suspect accused of stabbing a woman at a Whitehouse business has turned himself into police.

According to authorities at the Whitehouse Police Department, 32-year-old Shaun Mark Lawler turned himself in, as agreed upon with police, at 8:19 pm, Monday.

Lawler is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Jessica Renee Wimpee numerous times and cutting her throat with an unidentified bladed cutting instrument at J&M Trophies on Hwy 110 around 10:00 Monday morning.

According to the arrest affidavit, Miss Wimpee was the fiancee of Lawler and was going to leave him.

Miss Wimpee called Beverly Lawler, the mother of Shaun Lawler and owner of J&M Trophies and told her she was planning on leaving Shaun and asked if she could come by the office, get some boxes and return her engagement ring.

Ms. Wimpee arrived at the shop around 9:00 am, Monday. At the time, Mrs. Lawler overheard her on the phone with Shaun Lawler, telling him she was going to leave him.

According to Mrs. Lawler, a few minutes later Shaun arrived at the shop, blocking Ms. Wimpee's car.

When she tried to get into her car, Lawler pulled a knife from his pocket and began stabbing her repeatedly. Mrs, Lawler tried to stop her son. Once she was able to get him off Ms. Wimpee, she told her to run inside, lock the door and call 911.

At that time, Mrs. Lawler started screaming at her son and neighbors came out. That is when Shaun left in a work van.

Lawler was taken into custody without incident and is being held on a $300,000 bond for Aggravated Assault/Family Violence with a deadly weapon.

Ms. Wimpee underwent surgery Monday. Her condition is not known at this time.
