East Texas volunteer fire department destroyed by fire

TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity County volunteer fire department was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.  The '356' Volunteer Fire Department Chief says they'll have to start completely over since they don't have insurance.

The fire was called in by a passerby just after midnight.  Onalaska and Trinity Fire Departments responded to the blaze.  Witnesses say the building on F.M. 356 was already engulfed by flames when fire-fighters arrived.

V.F.D. members say it took almost three hours to extinguish the fire.  The entire building was burned including most of their equipment and trucks.

The V.F.D. says they will have to rely on the generosity of the community to rebuild.

Trinity county, along with Polk County, was home to the huge Bearing Fire, the largest wildfire in East Texas History.
