"Texas is great but we can do better." That was the message Comptroller Carol Keeton Strayhorn gave to members of the citizens advisory council Monday in Marshall. Strayhorn addressed the crowd telling them education was the most important issue facing Texas today.
She detailed her proposed plan called the 'Texas Next Step'. "Every Texas high school graduate ought to have the opportunity to go on to two years of college, with the state picking up the tab. I'd rather pay $2,100 here educating that young Texan than $150,000 a year incarcerating them."
Besides education Strayhorn says she plans to focus on improving health care insurance for children and unemployment.
