Should child obesity be a form of child abuse?

CAMBRIDGE, MA (KLTV) -A controversial article by a group of Harvard University researchers suggests letting your child become obese is a form of child abuse.

The scientists suggest that removing children from a home could be justifiable if there's proof that the parents repeatedly refuse to address the children's health problems, including severe obesity. 

Critics of the article say the obesity epidemic is a societal issue and blame should not be placed solely on parents.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that 17% of children in the United States are considered obese.
