NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches County Constable has identified a second suspect in connection to a marijuana field bust on Friday.

Constable Jason Bridges said he has obtained a warrant for J. Guadalupe Chavez, 34, on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Nacogdoches County authorities have been looking for Chavez since Friday, when he allegedly ran away from Deputy Constable Rusty Allen and Game Warden Heath Bragg in a campsite in a field of marijuana plants near the Shawnee River.

Bridges said lawmen kept a perimeter around the area until Saturday night. The search was called off on Sunday.

"If we couldn't find him by then, we weren't going to find him," Bridges said.

Bridges said deputies in his office, the county sheriff's office and employees of the Texas Parks and Wildlife removed more than 1,700 marijuana plants from the field. He estimated the plants, once dry, will yield more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana.

Bridges said his office has some leads they are working to arrest Chavez.
