LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man criminally charged with causing his baby to die while sleeping with it was arrested Sunday afternoon after he was accused of assaulting his wife, who is also charged in the same baby death case.

The arrest came just two days after the two, Mark and Vanessa Clark, both 32,  had booked in and out of the Angelina County Jail on endangering a child and criminal negligence.

According to Sunday's arrest report, officers arrested Mark Clark at about 3 p.m. outside a residence in the 5100 block of Harley Golden Road. Officers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Lowery Street to answer a call about an assault.

At the residence, officers spoke to Vanessa Clark, who said her husband threw her to the ground and punched her while holding her down by placing his knees on her chest. She said he then used a handgun to strike the back of her head. She said she managed to get up and dial 911 and Mark Clark drove away from the area.

Vanessa Clark said the altercation occurred over and argument to a title of a vehicle.

Angelina County deputies located Mark Clark at the Harvey Golden Road residence and detained him until an officer arrived and booked him into the Angelina County Jail, on a charged of aggravated assault.

Vanessa Clark was treated for her injury at a Lufkin hospital. On her behalf, a police officer was able to obtain an emergency protective order.
