Two East Texas West Nile Deaths Confirmed

Medical examiners have confirmed two more deaths caused by West Nile encephalitis in East Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Health, one victim, from Cherokee County, was in their early 60's. That person was diagnosed in mid-September and died in later that month. The other victim, from Smith County, was in their mid-70's. The victim became ill in mid-August and died earlier this month.

Doctors say elderly people are at a higher risk of dying from the disease. But health officials say, as the weather cools down, the number of West Nile cases should go down too.
