African-American Group Protesting Redistricting

More than a dozen leaders of the African-American community in East Texas are denouncing redistricting -- and they say they'll do all they can to block the changes to those congressional districts.

They held a press conference on the steps of the Smith County Courthouse Thursday afternoon. The Republican-controlled legislature finally approved redistricting earlier this month, but many in the African-American community are denouncing the plan, saying minorities lose representation.

The redistricting plan passed by the House is likely to go before a federal judicial panel soon. It is also being looked at by the Department of Justice.
