Methamphetamine Bust on I-20

A 3-year-old is in the custody of family friends after his mother was arrested in a major drug bust on I-20.

Constable Mark Waters of the Smith County Sheriff's Department says he stopped an SUV in Smith County yesterday for speeding. When he searched the vehicle, he found one pound of what police believe to be methamphetamine, in the rear jack assembly area. Waters says the female driver, Angelina Wells, had her 3-year-old son with her in the car. He's now out of her custody.

The constable says Wells tipped him off to another suspect, Michael Ballard. He was later arrested at a Lindale gas station. Both suspects face up to life in prison. In the last week, there have been two other drug busts in that same stretch of I-20.
