LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - To honor one of their own serving our Country overseas, an East Texas fire department is taking on a change of uniform form customary blue to Marine Corps red!
Longview Firefighters decided on a wardrobe change for a fellow firefighter David Holly, who is currently serving with the Marines in Afghanistan.
"We want to show the support to him and the other troops that are serving, while we do our jobs here," Longview Fire Marshal, Johnny Zachary stated.
A Marine Reservist, Holly was recalled, and has been gone for two years.
"We found out a lot of departments across the nation are doing red shirt Friday campaigns, so we came up with our own design shirts and got them printed," Captain Stoney Stone explained.
Those who know him say that Holly is the kind of man who can be counted on to serve the country.
"We really appreciate everything he does for us, he keeps us safe so we can do the jobs here," Firefighter," Tim Clanton said.
They want Holly to know that gesture is not only to honor him , but to let him know that they want him to come back safely.
"We're with you, we're ready for you to come home, and we appreciate your sacrifice," Stone said.
The firefighters plan to wear red until Holly comes home.
Money raised from the sale of the red fire department shirts will go to pay for care packages for troops overseas.
The fire department hopes Holly will be on his way home sometime in the fall.
