Former Assistant Running For Smith County District Attorney

Smith County District Attorney Jack Skeen is headed to a district court bench, and Wednesday, one of his former assistant DA's is applying to replace him.

Alicia Cashell has been in private practice for the last year, but from 1995 to 2002 she worked in the DA's office where she prosecuted more than 100 felony trials, including eight capital murder cases. She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and the South Texas College of Law.

Cashell says she wants to bring fresh ideas to an office with a great reputation.

"I want to continue that aggressive prosecution. I want to continue the respect and representation of victim's rights, but I want to bring some fresh ideas, and some positive leadership in," Cashell says.

Governor Rick Perry will make the appointment for the rest of Skeen's term, which expires next year.
