Little Radio Interference From Solar Storm

It's one of the biggest solar storms ever recorded-- the huge cloud of gas sent out from the sun slammed into the Earth Wednesday afternoon.

Satellite traffic and radio systems are most susceptible to interference, and some problems have been reported -- but not in most of East Texas.

East Texas Medical Center EMS serves a large part of the state of Texas, from Waco to well east of Tyler. After moving to a higher frequency radio system several years ago, the interference problem from solar storms has been virtually eliminated.

"Everything seems to be going smoothly. Our 800 MHz trunked radio is doing well.  There are reports of interference on high band radios.

Some smaller law enforcement agencies use those other radios.  Communications from other departments hundreds of miles away could be heard over their radios today. Most cell phone services in the US were unaffected today.
