ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Late Monday night, Athens Police responded to a shooting call in the 300 block of Jonathan Street.

Desiree Dijon Brown, 18, of Palestine, was found dead and Cody Jamar Fillmore, 18, of Athens, injured; both suffered from gunshot wounds.

Athens Police say initial reports indicate that the shooting was related to a verbal dispute earlier in the evening, involving James Garfield Marshall, 19, of Athens, and another individual.

Police say Marshall left the gathering after the altercation. He later returned and allegedly fired multiple shots into a crowd of people, striking Brown and Fillmore.

A warrant for murder was later issued for Marshall's arrest, he later surrendered to Athens PD without incident.

Additional charges are expected to be filed.

Brown was pronounced at the scene by JP Henry Ashford.

Fillmore was transported to ETMC-Athens, and was treated for an upper-arm injury.

The incident is still under investigation.
