Huntington Police arrest a Diboll man for punching a child

HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) - A Diboll man was arrested for punching a young child in the stomach and holding him down.

Delbert Ray Clark was booked into the Angelina County Jail Friday, charged with injury to a child and public intoxication.

Huntington Police Department Lt. Arthur Alvarez said Clark had been drinking and his family told officers he had been verbally abusive to his grandchildren all day. Family members told authorities Clark had threatened his granddaughter with bodily injury.

According to police, Clark's granddaughter and her grandma were outside when they heard a boy crying and screaming inside. Clark's granddaughter told Alvarez she saw Clark punch the young boy in the stomach.

Alvarez said he did see redness on the boy's arm and stomach where he claimed Clark struck and punched him. The child also told officers his grandfather held him down.

Clark denied hitting the boy, according to police and claimed the boy shot him with a BB gun, but police said they didn't find any evidence of a BB gun wound on Clark.

Clark has been released from jail for both charges on a $4,500 bond.
